A Message to CGSU from the Constitution and Bylaws Working Group
Dear proto-CGSU members,
It has been a busy summer for CGSU working groups! The working group, Constitution and Bylaws, has been working since May on a draft constitution and bylaws that will govern and guide the Union in its day-to-day operations. The Union is required by federal law to have a constitution, and the working group has tried its best to draft a document that:
1) institutionalizes democratic practice within CGSU;
2) facilitates the widest range of member engagement in CGSU;
3) provides for effective union operation; and
4) complies with federal law.
Once the constitution is ratified, CGSU will begin the initial stages of formation: the signing and issuance of membership cards and steering committee elections. We have drafted an initial start-up plan that will serve to fulfill these purposes.
If you’d like to get involved with the drafting, editing and ratification of the CGSU constitution and are interested in joining CGSU, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to get on the mailing list.
